after cannon beach, graeme and i headed over to portland. i love portland. every time i go there (i think this was my fourth time?), i have such an amazing visit. it’s just such a cool, fun city with a great feeling to it. nice people. good food. what else could you ask for?!
basically any time you see a person, they’re riding a bike. k, no, that’s not true. but portlanders (portlandites? portlandians?) love their bicycles. there’s even all sorts of art pieces of bicycles in the city. and we saw someone on one of those old bikes where one of the wheels is just gigantic. just goin’ to work or shopping or something. totally normal.
i swear, graeme could get lost in a closet. he honestly has the worst sense of direction of anyone i’ve ever met. here’s what he looks like all the time — looking up directions on his gps.
on the second night that we were there, there was a fire in the hotel across the street. there were NINE fire trucks on the scene. NINE.
we stayed at the hotel lucia, which had all sorts of outtakes of celebrities and politicians lining the hallways. it was very entertaining.
our first night there, we happened upon a peruvian restaurant called andina. there was over an hour wait to sit in the bar(!) and we decided to wait it out. best decision we’ve ever made. seriously, that was one of the top 3 meals of my life. so good, we went back the next night (the only reservation available was 10pm, and we took it). and again, AMAZING. i have pictures of the food there, and i was going to post them, but honestly, i’m too hungry, so if you want to know what to order, email me, and i’ll fill you in. we tried as many things as possible, including beef heart (just like it sounds), corn juice, quinoa-crusted shrimp, and jalapeno creme brulee. every bite was perfect.

I just love the feel of those images, and the black and white. So nice Kristel! Glad you had a great time away!
My meal at Andina’s is in my top 3 meals of my life too!!!
it was amazing… did you have the dish with truffle oil? worth the trip to portland just to go there!
NINE firetrucks…hmmmm…that means a lot of firemen. Hmmmmmm. P.S. Feel free to delete this pointless comment. But, seriously, NINE!??
